Beethoven's 9th Symphony Echoes Through Platres in an Evening of Music and Peace

On 9 May, Europe Day, the forest of Platres became the setting for a landmark cultural event. The Athens Philharmonic International Peace Concert brought Beethoven's 9th Symphony to the Troodos mountainside, delivering its enduring message of peace and unity to an audience gathered beneath an open sky.

The concert was initiated by Dr. Marinos Soteriou, Founder of the American Medical Center, as part of the Center's broader Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. It was produced by the non-profit organisation Cyprus Music Festival Platres, with the vision of establishing it as an international cultural institution that will position Cyprus as a point of reference for cultural events of distinguished artistic prestige.

The Athens Philharmonic Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Maestro Yiannis Hadjiloizou, performed to exceptional standard, accompanied by distinguished soloists and choristers. The concert was presented by Bang & Olufsen, and held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The event was broadcast live on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) network, reaching audiences across Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.

Dr. Marinos Soteriou reflected on the long-term vision behind the initiative: "With this aim, the non-profit organisation Cyprus Music Festival Platres was established as a stable cultural platform of international standards, one that will cultivate musical education, strengthen Cyprus' identity and foster meaningful creative collaborations with the wider world. Our aspiration is for this institution to evolve into a living meeting point of music, art and nature."
